About us Who we are

Scott has a passion for atmospheric science research and applications with a background in business and programming. After completing a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science from the University of California, Irvine (UCI) in 2009, he became a Postdoctoral Researcher and later an Assistant Researcher in the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).  Scott has experience downscaling atmospheric datasets both dynamically and statistically to resolutions suitable for public policy guidance and disaster preparedness.

About us Who we are

He is interested in meteorology with applications to renewable energy resource assessment, short- and medium-term operational weather forecasting, extreme weather events and wildfire dynamics. Scott is pursuing methods and tools to intelligently use weather and climate data in conjunction with numerical weather models to understand and maximize operational weather prediction accuracy. His Skills include Linux administration, high-performance computing, numerical weather modeling (WRF), programming (Fortran, Python, NCLNCO), and analog-based model output statistics (AMOS).  Scott has collaborated on several multi-institution projects including the Los Angeles Regional Climate Change Collaborative (LARC) and most recently, the Santa Ana Wildfire Threat Index (SAWTI) and has published several peer-reviewed articles on wind energy, statistical downscaling and climate.

Scott was a UCI School of Physical Sciences ARCS Foundation Scholar (ARCS) and a recipient of the Outstanding Contributions to the Department of Earth System Science award while working toward his Ph.D. at UCI. He also co-founded CLEAN Education a non-profit dedicated to educating the public about climate change while at UCI.
